Next steps after deliverance
After you are delivered, there are several steps you should take in order to stay free and keep the enemy from returning. In the bible it says that cast out spirits are homeless and go searching for a new home. If they don’t find a home they try to come back to the place they were cast out from. If there is an opening for them to come back, as in if you participate in sin or anything that gives these spirits a right and agreement to come back, they will return and bring spirits seven times worse. In this case you will be worse off than you were before being delivered.
Step 1
Start fasting. A fast is a spiritual way of depriving and resisting our earthly desires, indulgences, and pleasures. If you are new to fasting, start with a 3 day fast preferably on the weekend. Fasts are great ways to connect and get closer to God. Fasting also helps purge unclean spirits that are attached and connected to you. The closer you are to God the harder it is for spirits to reach you. Click the button below for a detailed overview about fasting.
Step 2
Read your bible daily. The bible includes so much invaluable information about Jesus, life, and how to become closer to him. Think of the bible as spiritual food. It provides precious information that allows you to read the word of God. Having a consistent reading schedule is important as well. Start off small by reading a few verses every night. Then try to read at least 1 chapter a night and continue to increase your reading over time. To keep yourself on schedule you can also read for an allotted time, e.g like 20 minutes, to take the pressure off of chapter counting. Ask God to give you a thirst for the word so your desire for reading the bible increases.
Step 3
Set aside a specific time each day to communicate thoughtfully and sincerely in prayer to Jesus. This can help deepen your spiritual connection to God and enhance your overall sense of peace and purpose. Pray that God will help you flee from temptations and challenges that may come your way and to give you the strength to endure.
Step 4
Have fellowship with him. Fellowship with God requires confessing sin, yielding to God in loving obedience, and sacrificing love for others. Fellowship with God is more than a casual acquaintance; it's a partnership, a sharing in common, or a communion.
Step 5
Frequent repentance. Once you are free from the bondage the spirits you were delivered from will come back to check if you have open doors for them to come back through while bringing more spirits seven times worse.
Step 6
Separate yourself from people, environments, and substances that don't encourage your spiritual growth and renewal. Not separating yourself from these things can tempt you into falling back into the habits, behaviors, and actions that invited and kept you in bondage with unclean and demonic spirits.
Step 7
Find a supportive community. Seek out like-minded individuals and groups, whether they are small or large, that can assist and mentor you on your journey. Engaging with others who share your beliefs and values can provide encouragement and offer guidance. Additionally, being a part of such a community can help keep you accountable in your spiritual growth with Jesus Christ.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can God hear me?
Of course! He’s always listening and wants to hear from you. Cry (pray/talk) out to God. It can even be done silently. Talk to him like a friend, brother, or father. He cares about what you need and how you’re feeling. Nothing is too big or too small. And absolutely everything you have to tell him matters. By talking to God, you can receive answers, guidance, help, enlightenment, healing, and protection. There’s no amount of sin, mistakes, and wrongdoing that could keep God from hearing and listening to you. Remember that you are never alone with God. The bible says in Peter chapter 5 verse 7: “Cast your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” Talk to him and leave your worries behind.
Should I do anything else after deliverance?
Avoid people, places, and environments that can tempt you to sin.
Going to a place like a club is not a sin, but there can be many temptations that can cause you to sin, like getting drunk or sleeping with someone from the club.
Avoid acting on negative emotions like anger and jealousy.
Negative emotions like anger are not a sin but avoid allowing that emotion to influence your thoughts and actions
Refrain from gossiping about others. Do not join in slander against another individual.
The bible says to guard your tongue. The bible says in Proverbs chapter 20 verse 19, “He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, therefore do not associate with a gossip.”
Do not partake in sexual immorality or give into lustful desires and images.
Your body is a temple and should be treated as one. The bible says in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5: "This is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality.
Refrain from idolatry.
Idolatry can be anything from money to a person or relationship. Making something an idol means to put it above God. In this way you would be willing to sin, go against God, and your morals to attain or get close to such idol.
Do nothing out of selfish desire or conceit.
No one should seek the good for themselves but for others. The bible says in James chapter 3 verse 16, “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and evil practice.”
Let go of any resentment and unforgiveness.
It’s important that you don’t hold onto bitterness to live in peace. The bible says in Matthew chapter 6 verse 14-15, "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
Avoid getting drunk.
Drinking alcohol is not a sin, but becoming drunk is. The bible says in Ephesians chapter 5 verse 6, "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit."
Key Scriptures
James 1:23-25
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
Proverbs 1:10-19
10 My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them. 11 If they say, “Come along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul; 12 let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder; 14 cast lots with us; we will all share the loot”—15 my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; 16 for their feet rush into evil, they are swift to shed blood. 17 How useless to spread a net where every bird can see it! 18 These men lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush only themselves! 19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.
